The family of a woman who was killed in a home in an upmarket Chelsea street have paid tribute to a “wonderful” young mother, as a man has been charged with her murder.

Police were called to a property in Tyrawley Road in the early hours of Thursday, following reports that a woman had been found with head injuries.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, a woman in her 40s was pronounced dead at the scene.

She has since been named as Sophinia Bertrand.

A post-mortem examination found her cause of death to be blunt force trauma.

Sophinia’s family are being supported by specialist officers.

Mehdi Madar, 45, who was known to the victim, has been charged with murder.

Sophinia’s sister-in-law Fatmia Madar has since paid tribute to Sophinia, describing her as an “amazing person”.

She told Metro: “She was an amazing person and a wonderful mother of eight.

“I cannot understand how this has happened.

“I last saw her on Eid. Everyone was happy, no worries. I’m devastated.”

Neighbours, who all expressed their shock at Sophinia’s death, say the family have four teenage children. She was killed in a street where homes can sell for more than £2million.

A police cordon was in place around the house as detectives worked at the scene.

Madar was charged on Friday with murder. He has been remanded to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday morning.
