Picture shows scale of grass fire firefighters tackled for 'large part of day' in Nottinghamshire

A picture posted on social media shows the scale of a grass fire crews from Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue dealt with through "most of the day" on Monday (July 18). It was officially the hottest day in Nottinghamshire since records began.

Temperatures topped 36.7 degrees Celsius at Sutton Bonington, the hottest temperature recorded in the county. Fire crews had said they had a "busy evening" on Monday as the temperatures started to rise, and the fire service was called to Station Road on Elton-on-the-Hill.

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed crews had been dealing with a grass fire for a "large part of the day" since 3pm on Station Road, Elton-on-the-Hill. Five fire engines in total were called to the scene of the incident from the Newark, London Road, West Bridgford and Grantham fire stations, and no injuries were reported.
