Picture postcard Edinburgh cottage with unique history hits the market

A 19th century Edinburgh cottage that has been repurposed and adapted to a modern standard has hit the market, having formerly been used to house the principal of a nearby school.

The three-bedroom Flora Cottage, Comely Bank, was used by the headteacher of Flora Stevenson school, but has recently undergone a huge transformation and has all the features of a modern family home, albeit with a bit of history built into the foundations.

Built back in 1900, the cottage has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and one reception room. It has the making of a holiday home with its private surroundings and LED-lit staircase.

The property is accessed via an entrance gate and patio slabs leading to the front door, but also carry on round to the rear of the cottage. A spacious sitting room occupies a large part of the ground floor, with a mirrored wall and laminate flooring. a wall-mounted flatscreen TV, corner sofa and chandelier with a light dimming switch are all features that convey an aura of tranquillity throughout the property.

Next door, a kitchen with integrated appliances to maximise space and a huge oak dining table add to the modern theme presented throughout. The ground floor benefits from plenty natural light during the day and the décor is designed to enhance that even more.

A family bathroom with a jacuzzi-style bath tub rounds off the ground floor rooms, with the three bedrooms all situated on the first floor. The staircase features glass panels and LED lights mounted into the wall for extra effect.

Upstairs, the principal double bedroom benefits from an en-suite shower room as well as a wall-length integrated wardrobe for extra storage space and a dressing table. The second double bedroom also includes a similar setup, though without an en-suite bathroom.

The third bedroom is the smallest of the three, although a desk for home-working and single bed still fits comfortably within the room, which would be perfect as an office or utilised as a bedroom.

Externally, a side entrance to the property also benefits from a slabbed path following round to a small rear garden area with a hedge surrounding the entirety of the property for that extra privacy.

If this sounds like your ideal family home, offers are starting over £585,000 and the full listing including more pictures and information can be found here.
