Pick your Newcastle United starting XI for Magpies' home clash with Leeds United

Newcastle United will be hoping to register their seventh straight Premier League when they host Leeds United on New Year's Eve. The Magpies picked up where they left off with an emphatic Boxing Day victory at Leicester City.

Eddie Howe's side have still lost just once all season, and temporarily moved into second spot on the back of their 3-0 triumph at the King Power Stadium. First-half goals from Miguel Almiron, Joelinton, and Chris Wood made it a comfortable return to top-flight action for the Magpies.

Howe made one change from the side who beat Bournemouth earlier that week to book a Carabao Cup quarter-final tie against the Foxes next month. Callum Wilson missed out through illness, while Jonjo Shelvey faces another spell on the sidelines after sustaining a groin injury.

Wood came into the team and scored a penalty in the third minute, and could yet keep his place in the team after being praised for his recent displays. Wilson is in contention for a return, while the Newcastle boss confirmed there were a few 'niggles' within the squad which could influence his selection.

The Magpies face a top-of-the-table clash at Arsenal just three days' later, before beginning their FA Cup campaign with a third-round tie away at Sheffield Wednesday. Who should keep their place, and where should the Newcastle head coach freshen up his team?
