The Melbourne Phoenix have signed sharp-shooting American forward Matthew Hurt, finalising their import spots for the upcoming NBL25 season.

The 24-year-old Hurt has played for the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies but mostly for their G League affiliate, the Memphis Hustle, where he averaged more than 20 points, seven rebounds and shot over 50 per cent from the field last season.

Hurt has signed a one-season deal, joining fellow Americans Derrick Walton Jr and Joe Wieskamp as the three imports for the Phoenix.

He played college basketball for Duke under renowned coach Mike Krzyzewski.

Standing at 206cm, Hurt can fill both the four and five spot, posing a threat on both the interior and exterior.

"Matt is an elite shooter that commands defenders respect on the perimeter," said Phoenix general manager of basketball operations Simon Mitchell.

"A stretch big who can space the floor and create opportunities for our guards to go to work.

"Matt is not only a deadly shooter beyond the arc, but he can work the paint with his touch and scoring nous, makes good reads out of pick and rolls and brings more length to the frontline."
