Phillip Schofield's wine disappears from supermarket shelves after 'poor plonk' reviews

Phillip Schofield 's wine business has been dealt a major blow as it disappears from supermarket shelves.

The This Morning presenter's alcoholic creations have previously been sold by Waitrose but his Benevento IGT Falanghina is no longer available to purchase online - with the supermarket giant confirming they haven't 'sold this wine for a while'.

Phillip's wines vanishing from shop shelves come after one of his tipples was hit with a barrage of negative reviews, with some unhappy customers branding his wine 'undrinkable' and 'poor plonk'.

The news of his wine business taking a hit over recent weeks come as Phillip still struggles with the backlash from the infamous Queue-gate saga, after he and co-host Holly Willoughby were falsely accused of skipping the line to see Queen Elizabeth lying in state last month.

While Holly has remained the face of retailer M&S - with the British brand confirming the presenter will feature in their campaigns going forward - Phillip has seen his face quietly removed from the We Buy Any Car social media accounts - a company he has worked with on TV and online adverts over recent months.

In addition to the different reactions regarding their lucrative ad deals, it seems the This Morning duo are also getting a very different reaction from fans on social media - with Phil dropping followers as Holly's platforms continue to grow amid the drama.

Although the summer wine from Phillip and the When in Rome team is no longer available to purchase on the Waitrose website, scathing reviews of the Benevento IGT Falanghina box wine are still live and available for all to see.

"Poor value, horrible plonk. This wine does not deserve its premium listing by Waitrose," one unhappy buyer wrote as they advised others to avoid purchasing.

Another negative review reads: "Was so excited to try this after seeing advertised on Instagram and so terribly disappointed. I’m no wine connoisseur like Phillip so I could be missing something here but this wine tastes absolutely awful and I have tasted some rough old plonk in my time - afraid to say this is one of them.

"Sorry Phillip and Waitrose but this is not a good product nor value for money."

"Really awful, like vinegar," another one-star review reads, dragging the total average rating down to two and half stars out of five.

However, among the 23 reviews published on Waitrose's site, Phillip did have some happy customers, with one defending the star and writing: "Lots of people on here slating this wine, but approach with an open mind and this stuff is lovely. One of my favourites."

Speaking to The Sun regarding Phillip's wine no longer being available to buy on their site, Waitrose said: "It’s absolutely normal for us to review our selection from time to time.

"We haven’t sold this wine for a while."

The Mirror has approached representatives for Phillip for comment on this story.

Phillip Schofield Benevento IGT Falanghina 2.25L and Phillip Schofield Nero di Troia IGP Organic 2.25L is still available to purchase on When in Rome's official website.

"I wouldn’t have just put my name on any wine," Phillip revealed when speaking with The Drinks Business earlier this year.

As he launched his bag-in-box wine range in cardboard bottles - a bid to help the environment - the presenter added: "I’m not naive. I don’t think you can change the world with one good idea."

But the star noted in June this year that in the face of climate change, "maybe one day we’ll have to".
