Phillip Schofield appeared to surprise Holly Willoughby as he shared how he was left 'scarred for life' in an electric blanket incident. The presenter was back hosting This Morning on Monday (November 21) alongside Holly Willoughby and during the ITV daytime show, the pair were joined by Alice Beer.
The consumer journalist was on hand with her 'winter checklist' amid the dropping temperatures and cost of living crisis. And as many will opt to dig out their electric blankets and old hot water bottles rather than turning on their heating in the lead-up to Christmas, Alice was on the programme to share the safety checks which are key to avoid causing any harm.
"An electric blanket will heat your bed up for pennies," Alice told Holly, Phillip and viewers watching at home. "They are brilliant things because they stop you putting the heating on."

But she did warn: "These are all wires all the way through. You’ve got to take them seriously. It’s a piece of electrical equipment. So if it’s seriously folded and folded and folded, you’re going to take a risk of damaging it." Showing one on the show, she added: "Look for scorch marks. Take it out and make sure it’s not folded in any way."
Phillip then interjected to reveal the dangers and revealed details of a scar he sustained to the top of his right leg in his early twenties after using an electric blanket while in New Zealand.
He said: “It was a loop in the electric blanket which I left on overnight while I was in there. I woke up thinking ‘Oh my god, ow, ow, ow.’ Luckily, no electric shock, but it scarred me for life on the top of my leg.
Alice then continued: “Please don’t buy a second-hand one. Make sure it's safe. Check the fuses. Unravel it and make sure it’s flat.” She then rounded off by saying: "Use it because it’s a brilliant cheap way to keep your heating down."
She also spoke about hot water bottles, telling viewers about a woman who was admitted to hospital with third-degree burns on her stomach and legs after the rubber on the hot water bottle she was holding to her stomach split. Half of hot water bottle injuries need skin grafts, they need surgery. This is really serious," Alice claimed.
She also shared the little-known way you can tell if your hot water bottle needs changing or not. "They do have a date of manufacture, which you don’t know about," Alice shared. “Why would you ever take the fluffy cover off? But inside – and I think this is the worst system of printing a date ever, because it’s so confusing – you’ve got a daisy wheel date with 12 segments.
“In the middle, you have the year it was made, then you’ve got 12 segments around the outside – those are the months in which it was manufactured." She remarked: "I mean it’s ridiculous! Congratulations if you can work that out. Most people have no idea. If you don’t have it on, then you haven’t got it from a very good source, or it’s too old."
