Phillip Schofield laughs as he documents Holly Willoughby's 'struggle' backstage at ITV Dancing On Ice

Phillip Schofield opted to document Holly Willoughby's 'struggle' backstage at Dancing On Ice as she jumped on a popular trend.

You may have seen it clogging up your social media feeds and even the celebs can't help but get involved in Wordle - the online word game that sees users having to guess that day's five-letter word in just six tries.

Ahead of appearing on ITV on Sunday night, Phillip took to Instagram to show Holly's attempts at the word game as he joked: "No spoilers here obviously..."

Before the 59-year-old Dancing On Ice host went on: "But Holly is really struggling with today’s Wordle. She’s really struggling with it."

"I’ve got two more letters left! How can it be this hard?" Holly complained. "Nobody tell me anything," she then demanded with her phone firmly clutched in her hand as they moved through the darkness of the studio.

“No one’s saying anything otherwise we’d get killed for spoiling it on here!” Phillip added as they walked through to the ice rink where the ITV skating competition's judges could be seen rehearsing in the background.

"I don’t understand, there are no words that exist like this," Holly continued as Phillip laughed at his friend's word-based plight before adding: "Yes there are! It's a word you know."

Holly, 41, then enlisted further help as another clip shows Ashley Banjor and Christopher Dean peering over her phone as she set near the judges' panel.

"Kneeling on the floor now," Phillip said, as another member of staff could be heard calling for the show's presenter, saying: "We’re ready, Holly! Ready when you are."

"Well, we can’t come to rehearsal because Holly hasn’t got the letter yet," Phillip replied with a laugh before he returned to another part of the studio with an update.

Phil could be still seen laughing backstage as Holly declared: "I've got it, I’ve got it and it was by pure accident!"

She went on: "I was just fiddling around with letters and then just suddenly I could read it! It was a word that I could read - I can't believe it!"

The This Morning star was then filmed submitting her answer to see green boxes proving she got it right in the end as she fist-pumped the air. "Phew," Holly laughed. "Wordle went 'phew'."

Phillip then stopped filming as Holly finally got her word and it was time for them to host the latest episode of Dancing On Ice.

Sunday's show saw the remaining couples take on Torvill and Dean week in honour of the show's ice skating legends, Jayne and Chris.

The episode saw former Strictly Come Dancing professional Brendan Cole, Pussycat Dolls star Kimberly Wyatt and singer and dancer Regan Gascoigne all score the maximum 40 points.

A shocked Phillip said: "I genuinely think this is one of the best shows we have ever done."

It was also revealed next week’s semi-finals will see the celebrity contestants skate twice and also include a double elimination.
