This Morning doesn't shy away from the weird, the wonderful and the controversial when it comes to interviews and segments on the show. So it may comes as no surprise that on Monday's edition of the ITV daytime programme, Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield spoke to a special effects artist who has created prosthetics for almost every body part.
Matthew Mungle appeared live on the show via video link from Texas to chat to the hosts about his 40-year career as an Oscar-winning special effects makeup artist. But the conversation soon to the boom in demand for prosthetic penises in Hollywood with Matthew having made prosthetics for a host of stars including Chris Hemsworth and Will Ferrell.
Speaking about the rise in prosthetic manhood, Matthew told Holly and Phil: "I think it’s a fad maybe we’re going through and then at one point, it’ll just relax."
Speaking of how it works, he said: "A producer will call me and they want a penis for a certain project. I say, ‘Okay, what’s the length of it, what’s the girth, how big are the testicles?’ and I’ll go from there."
Matthew, who has been nominated five times for the Academy Award for Best Makeup, winning in 1992 for Bram Stoker's Dracula, revealed how the production team for 2015 film Vacation wanted a "bigger" penis than the Thor star possessed for a scene in the movie.
"It was through underwear, so we had to decide how big the penis was and how it was going to be attached to him," he explained. "I think the scene is just funnier than funny." But the conversation wasn't without a few giggles and Phillip was forced to apologise at one point for laughing as the makeup artist spoke.
As a photo popped up showing Chris Hemsworth showing off his new bulge in a pair of boxer shorts, Phillip, 60, said: "Obviously, if you were going to do something like that, it would be nice if you could do it with your own." He then left Holly clasping her hand over her mouth as he remarked: "If you are deciding that you’re not going to do it with your own and you’re going to do it with a prosthetic, I’d want a proper schlong."
His co-host then laughed as Matthew replied: "You bet! That’s usually what they want, a bigger schlong. Maybe bigger testicles too." Holly then quipped: "It’s quite the wishlist."
Things then took another turn when Holly, 41, asked: "How much are they? Asking for a friend," but the hosts couldn't keep it together, with Phillip putting his hand on his face. "Well, it’s usually around $850 to $1000. If it’s from scratch it’s usually from $1400 to $2500," Matthew was able to reply.
And This Morning viewers ended up invested in the segment too. @BornToSnipe7 tweeted: " thought I had seen it all but now #thismorning are talking about prosthetic penis in the movie industry." @leeleeCThomas commented: "This segment is actually quite funny. Bravo Holly and Phil #ThisMorning."
@vickixoxo77 shared: "Is anyone watching #Thismorning #holly and #Phill laughing like little school kids over prosthetic penis has made my day."
