Phillip Schofield begins This Morning with Holly Willoughby tribute to 'silence' feud rumours

Phillip Schofield appeared to 'silence' rumours of a feud between himself and Holly Willoughby, as he began Wednesday's This Morning with a sweet tribute to his co-host.

For the last week, the high profile ITV presenters have been dogged by reports that they've had a falling out behind the scenes, with Phillip responding to the reports, by issuing a statement to The Sun in which he described Holly as his 'rock' and said that he'd also been there for her over the years.

Phillip's statement did little to quash the growing speculation that things have turned frosty between the two, with their former This Morning colleague, Eamonn Holmes, saying that Phillip and Holly should have received an acting award at Sunday night's TV BAFTAs for 'faking' their friendship on screen.

While odds on Phillip leaving This Morning by the end of the week are falling all the time, he and Holly have been putting on a united front in the studio and, on Wednesday, hosted the daytime programme for the third day in succession.

And it didn't take long at all for Phillip to praise Holly, with him giving her a very public display of support just seconds into proceedings, when, talking about her appearance at Tuesday's Prince's Trust Awards, he told Holly: "You looked gorgeous."

Phillip and Holly being together on This Morning again comes after ITV colleague Lorraine Kelly spoke out in their defence, saying: "Do you know what they were back today and it was business as usual and everyone is just getting on with it.

“I would be sad if they left the show but I don’t think that is ever likely to happen and I think they're just getting on with it."
