Phillip Schofield and his wife Stephanie Lowe appeared in a documentary together a year after his former lover joined This Morning.
The former This Morning presenter quit the series following a rumoured feud with co-star Holly Willoughby.
He later admitted to having an "unwise" but "not illegal" affair with a "much younger" colleague whilst working on the show.
It is thought that the runner started working on the ITV programme in 2016.
A year later, Phillip's South African Adventure was released and followed his and his wife's visit to the country.
At the beginning of the programme, Phillip announced: "This trip promises to be the journey of a lifetime and I'm so glad my wife Steph can join me for it"
Phillip and Stephanie were married for 27 years when he came out as gay in early 2020. They share two children together.
In one of the three episodes, he said: "The perk of this trip is that my wife Steph is joining me.
"In Cape Town, we discovered she is my better half in every aspect... except drumming."
They bought gifts for their daughters and co-host Holly Willoughby and even embarked on a romantic safari.
In his bombshell statement, Phillip admitted to the "on-off relationship" with the unnamed colleague.
"I did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague at This Morning," he said.
"Contrary to speculation, whilst I met the man when he was a teenager and was asked to help him to get into television, it was only after he started to work on the show that it became more than just a friendship. That relationship was unwise, but not illegal. It is now over."
Phil went on to apologise to his family, ITV and his agency for the betrayal.
An ITV spokesperson told the Mirror : "When rumours of a relationship between Phillip Schofield and an employee of ITV first began to circulate in early 2020 ITV investigated.
"Both parties were questioned and both categorically and repeatedly denied the rumours as did Phillip's then agency YMU.
"In addition, ITV spoke to a number of people who worked on This Morning and were not provided with, and did not find, any evidence of a relationship beyond hearsay and rumour.
"Phillip’s statement yesterday reveals that he lied to people at ITV, from senior management to fellow presenters, to YMU, to the media and to others over this relationship."
