A huge fire has broken out from a high-rise building in Philadelphia - with firefighters urging the public to stay away from the area.
Emergency services were called to the roof of a building near the intersection of 12th and Sansom streets in Philadelphia, US, at around 12.35pm amid reports of a blaze.
Philadelphia Fire Department said in a tweet: "About 100 PFD members are responding to a fire at a high-rise building near 12th & Sansom. Please avoid the area. More to come."
One social media user, who captured video of the smoke, said there were “several loud explosions."
Black smoke could be seen from across the city as crews desperately attempted to stop the fire from spreading.
The fire has now been placed under control, according to authorities.
The public were being urged to stay away from the area. It remains unclear if anyone is injured from the fire.
Firefighters were attempting to put the blaze out and within minutes most of the building was extinguished, according to eyewitnesses.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
A cordon has been placed around the building with several fire engines at the scene.
The fire comes just weeks after a blaze broke out at a warehouse in Wissinoming, Philadelphia.
Over 140 firefighters were called after a huge plume of smoke was sent into the sky after a fire spread across the industrial building.
The local fire department confirmed one person was taken to hospital for their injuries.
