Phil Foden has been ruled out of Manchester City’s clash with Liverpool and is a doubt for the Champions League tie against Bayern Munich after having surgery for appendicitis.
The forward will miss England’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Ukraine after having the operation, which is likely to sideline him for two to four weeks.
City host Liverpool on 1 April and then play against Bayern in Manchester on 11 April before the second leg in Bavaria eight days later but Foden could be fit for the potential title decider against Arsenal on 26 April.
Foden has scored four goals in his last six games for City and 13 this season and his absence reduces Pep Guardiola’s attacking options ahead of pivotal point of the season.
England manager Gareth Southgate was already without a host of other players for the Ukraine game, including the suspended Luke Shaw and the injured Marcus Rashford, Mason Mount and Reece James.
