Tragedy struck when a trusted family friend, a fifth-year Ph.D. student specializing in depression research, was accused of killing one twin baby and abusing the other. The incident occurred on June 16, when the babysitter, Nicole Virzi, was caring for 6-week-old twin boys, Leon and Ari Katz.
Virzi claimed that Leon fell from his bouncer chair while she briefly left to get a bottle. However, medical examinations revealed severe injuries, including a skull fracture and brain bleeds consistent with child abuse.
