When Pro Football Focus compiled a list of the three-best players on each team in the NFL, I was scared to see who was listed for the Tennessee Titans, as those who don’t closely follow the team often get things wrong.
However, I was pleasantly surprised to see PFF’s Trevor Sikkema get it right, as he listed defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons, running back Derrick Henry and safety Kevin Byard as the Tennessee trio. Here’s his thoughts:
It’s an old-school identity for the Titans’ top three, as they boast two players on defense (could’ve been a third) with one of the best running backs in football as the other. Simmons’ 79.3 pass-rush grade was the best figure yet in his career. Meanwhile, it was another season with an 80.0-plus coverage grade for Byard on the back end. As for Henry, it felt like a down year for him, but it wasn’t at all. He still rushed for more than 1,500 yards with 72 missed tackles forced, which was nearly a career high.
While these three are no doubt Tennessee’s best at the moment, keep an eye on wide receiver Treylon Burks and tight end Chigoziem Okonkwo, both of whom could crack this list as soon as next year if they have the breakout campaigns we expect them to.
