Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has revealed that their request to send Kelland Watts back to St James' Park has been rejected on three occasions by Newcastle United.
The 23-year-old centre-back could miss the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury which he sustained just days after extending his loan spell until the end of the season.
Watts joined the Posh on a short-term loan deal on September 1, but had to wait until he recovered from a knee injury before making his debut in October.
He has gone onto feature 11 times for the League One side across all competitions, and had his loan deal extended until the end of the season earlier this month.

However, Watts could now be sidelined for the remainder of the campaign after suffering his latest injury while warming up for a practice match, and MacAnthony voiced his frustration over the situation on Twitter.

In response to a tweet asking whether the Posh are unable to end Watts' loan, MacAnthony responded: "Correct. Asked three times and turned down three times. Life of an EFL club at times."
Darren Ferguson has returned for a fourth spell at the Weston Homes Stadium, after Grant McCann was dismissed at the start of January. Peterborough have won back-to-back games in League One, and sit just two points outside of the play-offs.
