Former West Brom forward Peter Odemwingie has compared himself to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the former Arsenal captain's move to Barcelona has reportedly broken down.
Aubameyang was relieved of his skipper duties last month following a disciplinary breach and has been left out of every matchday squad since and football.london reported that the Gunners were open to offers for the Gabon international.
The 32-year-old subsequently received interest from Saudi club Al-Nassr but football.london understands that the player would prefer to stay in Europe, with Barcelona and Juventus both reportedly keen on his services.
Now, the former Borussia Dortmund frontman's proposed move to the Blaugrana seems to have fallen through, according to various reports, leaving Aubameyang with egg on his face as he had travelled to Barcelona earlier on Monday afternoon.
His decision to fly to the Spanish city resulted in a number of fans comparing him to the aforementioned Odemwingie, who showed up at QPR's training ground back on deadline day in January 2013 before a move eventually broke down.
The Nigerian took to social media to address the comparison, tweeting: "Someone sent me the first picture. Am I passing the award on ? Aubameyang just make sure you ask Aguero for advice."
It is no surprise that a move to the Nou Camp has reportedly failed to materialise given the Arsenal centre-forward signed a bumper new contract in September 2020, increasing his wages to a whopping £350,000 per week.
Upon signing the deal, he said: “Signing for this special club was never in doubt. It’s thanks to our fans, my teammates, my family and everybody at this club that I feel like I belong here.
"We can achieve big things together. We have something exciting here and I believe the best is to come for Arsenal.”
