Peter Kay treated a young woman living with terminal cancer to lunch on Friday after she received a "bleak" diagnosis.
22-year-old Laura Nuttall from Barrowford, Lancashire, had her life turned upside down when she was given just 12 months to live in 2018. She has been battling stage four brain cancer ever since.
Laura and her mum, Nicola, were taken for a meal at a restaurant in Lancashire by Peter, before Laura resumes radiotherapy.
Nicola later took to Twitter to show her thanks to the 49-year-old comedian, who has been largely living out of the spotlight since 2017.
"Today’s joy has been a very special treat, the most wonderful lunch at @whiteswan_fence with #PeterKay for company.
"Laughter won’t cure #Glioblastoma but it’s definitely a blimmin’ good distraction for a couple of hours," Nicola wrote.
Her followers were blown away by Peter's kind gesture, with one person tweeting: "How awesome is that. Just watched his show on BBC and he’s a comic genius. What’s he like in real life?"
Nicola replied: "The nicest, most thoughtful and naturally hilarious person. Everything you’d hope he’d be. We’re lucky to have him as a friend x."
Another person wrote: "That's a really nice thing to share, sometimes if you're worried or feeling serious it's hard to laugh but II helps when someone genuine spontaneously helps you.
"Hearing that has cheered me up too. Thanks for sharing."
"He is an absolute legend. I know him from doing shows with him many years ago in Bolton and he is such a good bloke. I hope his laughter eases your heartache for a while - sending love," penned a third.
Laura was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a highly invasive brain cancer.
Following recent surgery, she is returning to radiotherapy after the tumour grew back within days of being removed.
Nicola said her family were "thinking of moving Christmas forward," after Laura underwent her fourth major surgery.
She tweeted: "Bad news I’m afraid.
"Laura’s tumour has grown back within 2 wks of surgery & moved into new areas of the brain, explaining her headaches. Radiotherapy has been brought forward to Monday but things feel pretty bleak.
"We’re thinking of moving Christmas forward. My heart is broken."
