Peter Kay has thanked his fans following his first round of gigs in over a decade. Earlier this year, the 49-year-old comedian announced that he'd be returning to the stage. After tickets went on sale, people were left queuing in their thousands in the hope of landing tickets to see him perform. You can read more about that here.
Last Friday, Kay received a huge standing ovation from fans on the opening night of his massive 110-date tour. He is set to play sold-out shows in Cardiff on June 16 and 17 next year. On Wednesday, December 7, he released a statement on social media and teased a "big announcement". He said: "I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came to the first shows in Manchester. It was incredible to be a part of such a happy experience.
"Everybody deserves a bit of joy. Here's to a lot more in the shows to come! PS. Big announcement Thursday on Sara Cox Drivetime Show just after 6pm," he added, leading many people to speculate what the news entailed.
Kay's comments section was then flooded with Phoenix Nights fans, who cried out for a third series of the early noughties Channel 4 sitcom that also starred Paddy McGuinness. One fan wrote: "Announce Phoenix Nights Series 3." Meanwhile, another said: "We all deserve a third series of Phoenix Nights after the last few years.."
Whilst there were plenty of calls for a new series of Phoenix, some people wanted more of BBC's Car Share. The series, which also starred Wales' Sian Gibson, was a huge hit with viewers. "i know it won’t be but…imagine if it was to do with car share," wrote one fan. In agreement, another person said: "Please more car share."
However, despite the speculation, the comedian hasn't given any inclination as to what the news will entail. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
