Comedy hero Peter Kay could make his long-awaited comeback tour next year. The comedian is reportedly set to confirm a string of 2023 dates - six years after abruptly cancelling plans for his last set of gigs.
The Bolton-born comedian is understood to be planning the series of huge arena dates, BirminghamLive reports. A source told a national newspaper: “He has lined up huge venues across the country including in Manchester, London and Birmingham and is hoping to announce it in September.”
The source added: “Peter has not performed a live stand-up set on a big stage in well over a decade now but he could not be more ready to get back out there.”
Peter cancelled his plans for his last tour in late 2017. The 100-gig Peter Kay Live Tour sold out before plans were shelved.
The announcement on his Facebook page read: "Due to unforeseen family circumstances, I deeply regret that I am having to cancel all of my upcoming work projects. This includes my upcoming stand-up tour, Dance for Life shows and any outstanding live work commitments.
"My sincerest apologies," he continued, insisting the decision had not been 'taken lightly.' "I'm sure you'll understand that my family must always come first." he said.
"I've always endeavoured to protect my family's privacy from the media. I hope that the media and the public will continue to respect our privacy at this time. Once again, I'm very sorry."
The star told fans he was doing "great" last month, meanwhile, as he made a rare public appearance near his beloved hometown in aid of a good cause. Peter was the guest of honour as he helped launch a new wheelchair-accessible 'wheelyboat' near Bolton.
