Peter Kay plans 'major comeback' to comedy after over a decade of touring hiatus

Comedian Peter Kay is reportedly set for a monumental comeback to the stage after more than a decade of not touring, while he dealt with some personal issues.

The funnyman stepped back from the stage in 2017, cancelling his upcoming tour as he dealt with some 'unforeseen family circumstances', reports the Daily Record.

And now, reports have circulated that Kay is now planning a huge UK tour in 2023, in his first tour since 2011.

A source has told The Sun : "He has lined up huge venues across the country including in Manchester, London and Birmingham and is hoping to announce it in September."

"Peter has not performed a live stand-up set on a big stage in well over a decade now but he could not be more ready to get back out there."

In 2017, Peter broke the news to fans that he would not be going on tour due to personal issues, writing on social media: "Due to unforeseen family circumstances, I deeply regret that I am having to cancel all of my upcoming work projects.

"This unfortunately includes my upcoming stand-up tour, Dance for Life shows and any outstanding live work commitments.

"My sincerest apologies. This decision has not been taken lightly and I’m sure you’ll understand my family must always come first."

Since then, Peter has only took part in two Q&A sessions to raise money at charity event 'Doing it for Laura' last year and DJed at Dance For Life events in April.

Last month, Peter made a rare public appearance in his hometown as he helped launch a new wheelchair-accessible 'wheelyboat' near Bolton - his beloved birth place.

Peter was able to crack a few jokes with excited fans as he officially launched the boat that will offer disabled adults and children the opportunity to enjoy water-based sports and activities at The Anderton Centre for the first time.
