Peter Kay fans divided after heckler booted out for stopping show

Peter Kay has been delighting fans after kick starting his first tour in 12 years.

The comedian is currently on the road as he performs a string of much-anticipated gigs after a lengthy hiatus from the live stage.

Car Share creator Peter started out at Manchester’s AO Arena in December and was so overwhelmed with the response of his fans that he became visibly emotional.

He told the audience: “Aw you’ll have me in bits. Lovely Manchester you made me cry. I can’t believe I cried, where did it come from all that emotion?"

But this week, it seems the star’s loyal band of followers are slightly divided after the Phoenix Nights star’s response to one audience member who had brought one of the performances in Liverpool to a stop, as writes Chronicle Live.

Peter was in Liverpool at the M&S Bank Arena when someone in the crowd was allegedly booted out for heckling.

But others watching were not so impressed when the comic started making jokes about the incident on stage - and called the heckler an “a******” as they were removed from their ground floor seat in front of the stage.

In videos which were taken by fellow audience members and seen by the Liverpool Echo, Peter can be seen joking from the stage: “Oh, it's all kicking off here. Where's my phone?"

He added: “He's a bit of an a******e, he's a bit annoying.

"I like a laugh, I'm a comedian, but I can tell all them people round there are getting a bit nowty now,

"He likes the limelight - I know I do, but I'm on stage."

Some fans praised Peter for his reaction, with one person writing on Twitter: "Absolutely top entertainment at the M&S Bank Arena last night. Expert way of dealing with a k***head heckler as well, think 13,000 people were glad to see him escorted out."

Another added: "Saw you tonight [at the] @MandSBankArena & I can honestly say, I laughed, cried & felt every emotion possible. You are so talented & so glad you got rid of the heckler. Please continue being you."

Several fans who attended the gig applauded the star on social media afterwards for his handling of the situation. One person wrote on Twitter: "Absolutely top entertainment at the M&S Bank Arena last night.

But some felt the funny man went a bit too far, with one saying: "First half [was] funny tonight until you decided to throw that feller out for asking for an autograph," one disgruntled fan said. "Doesn't look good mate I thought you was one of us."

But others defended the comedian, with another audience member pointing out: "Think there was more to it than that, everyone around him seemed p****d off."

Fans were delighted when Peter made the announcement of his tour at the end of last year, appropriately titled 'Better Late Than Never'.

And, to combat the cost of living crisis, he made the decision to charge only £35 for a ticket - which is the same price as they were back in 2010.

The comic has received a string of five-star reviews for his show.
