PETER GRANT has questioned why Celtic didn't make a move for Josh Doig this summer.
The former Hibs starlet departed Scottish football as he sealed a sensational move to the Serie A with Hellas Verona.
Celtic have brought in Alexandro Bernabei as competition for Greg Taylor at left-back.
It's been reported that Doig was on Celtic's wish list in previous transfer windows.
And Grant can't understand why his old club didn't make a move for the 21-year-old.
He told Go Radio's Football Show: "I have been scratching my head as Doig was allowed to go to Italy.
"I thought he would have been an ideal Celtic player, I really do. I saw him as a youngster and I followed him closely.
"He's got better and better and there are things still to work on in his game.
"Greg has done tremendously well but I think it would have been great to see another Scotsman in there.
"I don't think the fee paid in Italy was massive, it was millions and millions of pounds.
"It's the money Celtic could have afforded and he is proven in the league.
"He's only going to get better and would have improved under the manager. They went for Bernabei instead which is fair enough.
"I've worked with South American players before and if Bernabei is anything like them then Celtic have got a real player on their hands.
"They work hard and they're full of energy, commitment and enthusiasm."
