Peter Crouch jokes he was on 'family holiday' in Brazil after '10ft-tall alien' video goes viral

Peter Crouch has joked footage of "10-foot aliens" reportedly spotted by hikers in Brazil were actually him and his family on holiday.

The former England striker, who is 6ft 7ins tall, shared a video from a news outlet with his one million followers on X, formerly Twitter.

The grainy clip showed several figures on a hillside, and was captioned by the outlet: "Hikers have taken footage of what believe are 'aliens' in Brazil.

"They said they moved very quickly and seemed to be around 10ft tall."

Sharing the clip on Wednesday night, Crouch wrote: "We were on a family holiday pls respect our privacy at this time".

One of the figures in the video appeared to be doing a 'robot' dance - the move Crouch famously performed to celebrate goals during his stellar career.

By 10.30am on Thursday, his post had racked up more than 200,000 likes.

"You should be a comedian, skies the limit," wrote one fan, while another said: "Crouchie has confirmed his place as the wittiest footballer of all time."

Others poked fun at the video, with one X user writing: "I love how the alien brought their own hiking poles. Smart move for any hike."

Chris Coleman wrote: "You can see the props for the arms! At least Crouchy don’t need props for the robot dance!"

It is not the first time Crouch has joked on social media about his lofty height.

In 2017, he tweeted a photo of himself feeding a pair of giraffes, quipping: "Summer for me is about time with family."

In 2022, fans joked they feared he had died after spotting a metres-long trolley shrouded in black material being wheeled off the pitch during Sky Sports coverage of a football match. He responded in good humour, writing: "I’m ok guys thanks for your concern".

An Amazon original documentary That Peter Crouch Film, released last summer, revealed the footballer's "long, arduous journey" to stardom. It included a look at the start of his career, when he was ridiculed for his height and seen as a “freak”.

The one-off documentary chartered Crouch's journey from non-league club Dulwich Hamlet to the Premier League - and a career that eventually saw him capped 42 times for England, scoring 22 goals for the country and appearing at two World Cup tournaments. It also gave a rare behind-the-scenes look at the footballer’s life with wife Abbey Clancy, and their children, Sophia, 12, Liberty, seven, Johnny, five, and Jack, three.
