Peter Andre shares throwback picture and heartfelt tribute to Olivia Newton-John

Peter Andre paid tribute to the 'lovely' Olivia Newton-John after she died at the age of 73.

The Physical singer, who had been battling breast cancer for 30 years, was surrounded by her family and friends.

After hearing the news of her death, Peter took to his social media to pay tribute to the icon.

"This has made me really really sad. I have had the privilege of meeting the incredible Olivia a few times and even worked with her on a special Spina Bifida concert in Australia," the 49-year-old wrote.

"She was lovely in every way. Always lit up the room. Thoughts with her family. RIP."

Peter, who plays Teen Angel in the Grease musical, shared a snap of a young Olivia.

He returned to his Instagram page a few hours later to share a picture of him with the Grease icon that his sister found.

"My sister Debbie just sent me this photo," Peter said of Olivia, who played Sandy in 1978's Grease.

"The night of the Spina Bifida charity concert in Australia where I had the privilege to perform alongside Dame Olivia Newton-John.

"This photo reminds me what a warm, kind and giving person she was."

He concluded the post: "She smiled constantly and spent time speaking to everyone backstage. I will never forget it."

He also shared a throwback photo of the two (instagram.com/peterandre)

In the photo, a young, long-haired Peter put his arm around Olivia as they both smiled for the camera.

Olivia's husband, John Easterling, confirmed the tragic news on her Facebook page on Monday.

It read: "Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends. We ask that everyone please respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.
