Peter Andre has been left excited by news that parts of Australia are set to end their extremely strict entry requirements in response to the changing conditions of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
For years now, Australians have been restricted in how they can enter the country from overseas – even if they are Aussie nationals.
Initially, nationals were completely banned from entering the southern hemisphere country – and later restrictions were ‘eased’ but entrants have been forced to spend weeks inside quarantine hotels, even if they are world leading sports personalities.
Now Queensland – the second largest territory in Australia – is set to ease restrictions to allow international arrivals to no longer require hotel quarantine as they can book a Covid test on arrival and be free provided the results is negative.
Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, 48-year-old Peter reacted with excitement at the news – although he hinted he was afraid it was a hoax.
He shared a screen grab of a ‘breaking’ news report that stated that Queensland’s 52-year-old Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, had announced a change in restrictions.
The news left Peter excited by the prospect of being able to be reunited with his mother, Thea Andre, 84.

He wrote online: “If this is true (I don’t want to get too excited) this will be the greatest news I could ask for.
“Hopefully get to see my mum, dad and sister within the next month. Somehow seems too good to be true but I'll investigate.”
While Peter goes off to do his research, fellow Aussies can easily check the official Queensland Government website which quite plainly confirms that the statement issues by Ms Palaszczuk is indeed correct.
The latest update, dated January 19th, 2022, states: “From 1am AEST Saturday 22 January, fully vaccinated international arrivals will be required to get tested for COVID-19 within 24 hours after arrival, and to quarantine at home or in other accommodation until they receive a result.”
The statement goes on to declare: “Those who test negative no longer need to quarantine.”
While advice is also provided for those who do end up testing positive for the respiratory virus.
Fans of Peter have shared well wishes with him and shared their hopes that he can enjoy a family reunion sooner rather than later.
One fan wrote: “I really hope you get to see your family soon... I can’t imagine what it must be like to be so far away from them.”
Another typed: “I also have family in Queensland I have been unable to see since before the pandemic and a brand new niece I have not yet met.”
And a further fan advised the Mysterious Girl singer to: “get ya plane tickets booked.”
Last year, Peter expressed his frustration at being unable to be with his mum while he celebrated Mother’s Day in the UK.
Sharing a snap of himself with Thea, he wrote at the time: “Happy Mother’s Day (even though it’s not Mother’s Day in Australia). Love you so much. We wish we could be with you. Soon.”
