Peter Andre says his heart goes out to Kate Garraway and her battling husband Derek Draper following his health set-back.
The 55-year-old presenter has confirmed Derek is back in hospital after he took an "unexpected and frightening turn for the worse".
She announced that he died of sepsis last month as she provided a heartbreaking update. Derek has been suffering from serious after-effects of coronavirus since he contracted the illness back in 2020.
The family contended with another three weeks of hell but Kate says he is now finally "back on the right side of it".
Singer Pete says he feels for his friend and it's about time they all had a bit of good luck.
Writing in his OK! Magazine column, the star again had a poke at Covid deniers and says the family's suffering during the pandemic was devastating.
The 49-year-old said: “I am sending my best wishes to Kate Garraway after she revealed her husband Derek Draper nearly died of sepsis.
“I’ve known Kate for a while and she is one of the kindest and loveliest people you will ever come across.
“It still frustrates me so much when I think about all the people who said Covid wasn’t real when you see what has happened to Derek.
“It’s just heartbreaking. I hope Derek, Kate and their whole family can catch a break soon and get some good news, and I hope Kate is being given the support she deserves.”
Kate, who shares Darcey, 16, and Billy, 14, with Derek, pulled out of her presenting duties in mid-July.
She returned to ITV and talked everyone through the recent troubling times.
Kate told GMB viewers: “I got a phone call from the person who was looking after him saying, 'Right, we're really worried'. I whizzed home and it just sort of went boom from there.
"We called an ambulance, went to A&E, where they said he had very severe sepsis, life-threatening sepsis. So it was really dramatic."
She continued: "A really junior doctor said, 'What did you think it might be?' He knew it wasn't Covid-19 because we tested before we left the hospital on the Thursday.
"I said, 'Well I did wonder if it was a urine infection, but weirdly we couldn't get anything for a sample.' And they just went, 'Kidneys'.”
The star went on to explain how doctors are now battling to save Derek’s kidneys.
"Unfortunately, his kidneys were really badly infected, blocked. The challenge now is to save them. So that's where we've been for the last three weeks," she said.
Kate went on to share that while Derek is still in hospital, he's no longer in intensive care.
