Pete Davidson made a surprise red carpet appearance on Monday for the opening night of All In: Comedy About Love.
The event marked the 31-year-old’s first red carpet appearance in 18 months.
The comedian attended the gala performance at New York City's Hudson Theatre to support his longtime friend John Mulaney, one of the stars of the new play.
The show was written by former Saturday Night Live writer Simon Rich, whose tenure overlapped with Mulaney's.
Davidson — who also made a brief appearance on SNL when John hosted in November — kept it casual for his return to the spotlight in a brown leather jacket, black T-shirt and trousers.
The comedians have been close friends for years, having gone on tour together in 2019. Mulaney also appeared as a guest star in Davidson’s Peacock series Bupkis, which he chose to end after just one season, despite the streamer renewing it for a second.
The stage star previously revealed Davidson was one of the first people to call him after he checked into rehab in December 2020.
“Some people suggested that he and I did drugs together because he has tattoos and I am plain. We must be up to witchcraft!” Mulaney joked in his Netflix special from April 2023.'
Lately, Davidson has been keeping a low profile following his most recent stint in rehab. The King of Staten Island star checked into a wellness centre in July.
This follows a previous rehab stay in July 2023 for treatment of his post-traumatic stress disorder and borderline personality disorder diagnoses.
His appearance on the red carpet comes after Davidson admitted he’s embraced a quieter life after stepping back from the spotlight.
The TV star, who left Saturday Night Live in 2022 after eight successful seasons, shared that his decision to distance himself from Hollywood was partly driven by the intense scrutiny and negative press surrounding his high-profile relationships with stars like Ariana Grande and Kim Kardashian.
He recently told W: “Luckily, I got hit on the face with the Hollywood shovel. It was a long time coming, and I needed it. I’m very happy where I am right now, mentally.”
Davidson emphasised that he wants to be recognised for his “good work,” whether in film, stand-up, charity, or business. “That’s when I want to be seen,” he explained. “I don’t want to be this f*****g loser who just dates people. That’s not who I am.”
