Pete Carroll Unsure if Geno Smith Will Play in Seahawks-49ers Rivalry Clash

As the Seahawks (6–6) look to stay alive in the playoff race, the team will enter Week 14 facing uncertainty about the health of quarterback Geno Smith for Sunday’s road game against the 49ers (9–3).

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll shared an update on Smith’s health Friday after the team held the starting QB out of practice before listing him as questionable for the pivotal rivalry clash with a groin injury.

Speaking to reporters following practice, Carroll shared that the absence was due to Smith, 33, receiving extra rest after he “tweaked his groin” during Thursday’s session. Seattle went on to list the 10-year veteran as limited later that day.

With Smith’s status already up in the air, Carroll added to the concern when asked about his availability for Sunday, stating simply, “We’ll see.”

Although Carroll appears to be holding out hope, there’s a chance Smith could be ruled out ahead of the 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff. If so, backup QB Drew Lock would likely take over the QB1 reins with Sean Mannion, back for his third stint after resigning with the club on Friday, as a reserve.

The 2022 NFL Comeback Player of the Year, Smith, who was also named to last year’s Pro Bowl, has compiled 2,918 yards, 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions this season.
