Budget cuts to hit least-well-off schools hardest

Two public schools will operate a reduced timetable in term 4 as an analysis of budget data shows less-wealthy schools will be hit hardest by proposed budget cuts.

Data obtained by The Canberra Times shows that some of the least-advantaged schools will need to find the largest savings in 2027 compared with the amount of money they received in 2026.

Kingsford Smith School was expected to have its budget cut by almost a quarter, or about $3.5 million. The school's index of community socio-educational advantage (ICSEA) places it in the 43rd percentile compared with all schools in Australia.
