A Perth support worker was one of two NHS Tayside staff to receive gongs at the national Scottish Health Awards which recognises those who go that extra mile to improve the health and wellbeing of others.
Margaret Sloan of the Older People Mental Health Liaison Team at Perth Royal Infirmary picked up the Support Worker Award.
Margaret was nominated for working tirelessly to create a positive and calming environment for patients and staff.
Margaret was also a finalist in the Unsung Hero Award category but missed out on a double win as the award went to Tayside colleague, Laic Khalique.
Laic, who is NHS Tayside’s digital director, collected the Unsung Hero Award for demonstrating outstanding national leadership in the field of equality and diversity within NHS Scotland.
As well as collecting two awards on the evening, Tayside also had three other finalists across four award categories.
Morag Curnow, director of dentistry and clinical director public dentist service was a finalist in Leader of the Year, Michael Grogan, storekeeper at TORT Centre, Ninewells was a finalist in the Support Worker category and the Community Independent Living Services (CILS) Dundee team were finalists in the People’s Choice Award.
The awards were handed out by cabinet secretary for health Humza Yousaf at a ceremony hosted by Fred MacAulay and held in the O2 Arena in Edinburgh.
Chair of Tayside NHS board Lorna Birse-Stewart said: “Huge congratulations to Margaret and Laic on their awards.
“I am so proud that their efforts have been recognised at these prestigious national awards.
“I would also like to congratulate our finalists on making it so far in the awards process – it really is quite an achievement.”
The Scottish Health Awards are run by NHS Scotland and the Scottish Government.
