Perth Racecourse expects crowd of almost 7000 for Thursday’s Edinburgh Gin Ladies Day

A crowd of almost 7000 is expected to attend Perth Racecourse for “non-stop fun and entertainment” this week.

The occasion, always a popular fixture in the local calendar, is the annual Edinburgh Gin Ladies Day on Thursday for which only a handful of tickets remain.

Action, however, will begin on the Wednesday with the Murrayshall Country Estate Race Evening. Gates will be opening at 4pm.

Perth Racecourse director of racing Matthew Taylor has been busy preparing for the double-header and, on Sunday, revealed course conditions as soft, good to soft in places.

“We enjoyed a fantastic start to our racing season at Perth across the three-day BetVictor Perth Festival, including Brian Hughes being crowned champion jockey for the third time,” he said.

“Since then we have been fully focussed on preparing the track for Murrayshall Country Estate Race Evening and Edinburgh Gin Ladies Day, offering 14 races inside 24 hours.

“We can’t wait for another two days of competitive racing here at Perth.”

Backed by title sponsor Edinburgh Gin and fashion partner Tiger Lily Boutique, Ladies Day on Thursday afternoon will include live music, fashion competitions and seven thrilling races.

Perth’s Edinburgh Gin Ladies Day Main Stage, located in the Nelson Stand forecourt, will be hosted by Gregor and Lynsey of Tay FM’s Breakfast Show.

There will be chat from charity partners Breast Cancer Now and Debbie Brash, owner of Tiger Lily Boutique.

Gates open at 11.30am on Thursday and fashion shows and competitions kick-off from noon, including the chance to be crowned The Tiger Lily Boutique Grand Lady 2023, with a prize worth £2000, as well as Best Suit, Best Group and Best Headwear categories.

After the completion of all fashion competitions and the last of seven races, Edinburgh Gin Ladies Day reaches its crescendo with a live DJ set from Edith Bowman.

With hospitality and grandstand areas for Ladies Day having been fully sold out for a number of weeks, only a small number of picnic tickets remain ahead of the big event.

There will be no tickets available to buy on the gate for either enclosure, while picnic tickets will be available, until sold out, online until the first race at 2.15pm.

Perth Racecourse director of operations Morag Connaghan said: “After a brilliant BetVictor Perth Festival to open our season in style last month, it’s all eyes on Edinburgh Gin Ladies Day which stands alone as one of the most highly anticipated days on the racing calendar every year.

“As soon as the gates open at 11.30am it is a day of non-stop fun and entertainment alongside the racing and we simply encourage anyone without a ticket to snap up a picnic ticket as soon as possible.”
