Perth dance stars on top of the world after clinching 24 trophies at world championships

Inspire Dance Studio is feeling on top of the world after returning from a prestigious event in Dublin with a huge haul of silverware and honours.

No luck of the Irish was required at the World Lyrical Dance Federation Championships where the club stunningly earned 24 trophies and six world champion titles.

Eleven dancers made the trip across the water and represented themselves, the club and the city of Perth fantastically well.

The senior lyrical team of Ailsa McKenzie, Ellie Bennett, Georgia Wiggan, Lauren McHugh, Jessica Butler and Leah Blackburn claimed first.

And James Doogan and Skye Moloney secured top spot in the lyrical duo category.

Displaying talents further, James also came home with first place in the lyrical solo and the jazz solo.

Skye celebrated a lyrical solo first too.

The golden performances had continued when Larissa Wernsen took first in the acro solo.

Making the finals in lyrical were Ailsa McKenzie who placed sixth, Georgia Wiggan who placed fifth and Larissa who placed sixth.

In the jazz final, Georgia earned third place, Larissa fifth and Lauren McHugh sixth.

Also competing brilliantly and coming home with trophies were Clara Robertson and Summer Moloney.

Principal teacher at Inspire Dance Studio, Brooke Robertson, was incredibly proud of everyone involved.

“The kids had been working five or six days a week towards the competition, on top of show rehearsals which was in June in Perth Concert Hall,” she explained to the PA.

“It totally paid off, coming home with six world championship titles. The atmosphere was electric, not just within our school but the support from other schools as well. Every child stayed to support each other.

“The under-12s danced in the mornings and the over-12s in the afternoon, which meant up to 13 hours in the hall for four days in a row.

“However, as one of the smallest dance teams at the competition, the children made a conscious decision between themselves to cheer on every dancer in the team. They had a brilliant time.”

Inspire Dance Studio is located in Perth city centre on Victoria Street and was first established in 2012.

Their ethos is that dance is for everyone, whether for fun, to take part in exams, competitions and shows or if dreams are harboured of a professional career in the performing arts.

Classes are offered in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, acrobatic arts, highland, street/commercial dance and musical theatre.

And there is even ‘Mini Movers’ for toddlers and sing and sign classes for babies from 0-2 years.

After the recent success in Dublin, Brooke says there is already excitement for next year’s competition.

She smiled: “We have already started qualifying competitions for next year’s World Championships.

“Five dancers have qualified for lyrical solos, two duos placing top two and our senior lyrical team placing first and jazz team placing second.

“Our school is home to just over 200 dancers so we will be encouraging more of our dancers to take part in competitions and hopefully expand our competition team.

“We allow children of all ages and abilities to take part in competitions and hope, after our dancers’ success this summer, more of our recreational dancers will want to follow in their competitive footsteps.”
