Perth Covid and flu vaccination centre relocating to former Lakeland store ahead of winter

NHS Tayside’s Perth Central vaccination centre is relocating to the former Lakeland store on St John Street ahead of the winter Covid and flu vaccination programme.

The new venue, currently subject to planning permission to transform it into a restaurant and flats, will open on Monday and replaces the current site at St John’s Shopping Centre.

The last day of vaccinations in the shopping centre will take place on Sunday, September 4.

Senior nurse for the vaccination service in Perth and Kinross, Karen Gunn said: “We would like to thank everyone who helped set up and run the current centre as well as everyone who came in to see us for their vaccinations over the past eight months.

“We look forward to welcoming our patients to our new Perth Central clinic for their winter vaccines.”

The first two weeks of the winter programme will focus on care homes, home visits and appointments for health and social care staff across Tayside, before vaccinations begin for the first priority group of the general public.

Letters have been issued to those aged over 80 with appointments beginning on September 19.

The remainder of people in at-risk groups will be invited over the coming weeks, including over 65s, those with certain health conditions, unpaid carers, immunosuppressed households and 50 to 64-year-olds.

Sunday will also be the last day of drop-ins across Tayside ahead of the winter campaign.

A planning application was lodged to Perth and Kinross Council in March to transform the former Lakeland building into a restaurant and five residential flats.

Plans also include a substantial refurbishment of the Grade ‘A’ Listed Property at 50 St John Street.

Submitted to PKC by Mill Architects on behalf of applicant Roland Peeters, all of the apartments would then sold off individually to “ensure the long-term future of the building”.

The latest development comes over a year after the Lakeland store closed in May 2021, following the downturn caused by the pandemic.

Anyone who has not yet had their first or second Covid vaccines or boosters is encouraged to attend this week.

Details of drop-ins are at www.vaccinationtayside.scot.nhs.uk or @NHSTayside on social media.

Anyone attending the new Perth Central vaccination centre by car can use any of the nearby car parks in the city centre.

Blue Badge parking is available on South Street and there is drop-off access from King Edward Street with Shop Mobility located nearby at Canal Street.
