Person taken to hospital following crash on main road

A person has been rushed to hospital following a crash on a main road near the A6 in Stockport.

Emergency services were called to London Road in Hazel Grove at around 12.36pm on Monday (January 23) following reports of a road traffic collision.

The road was closed off in both directions between Vine Street and Queens Road as emergency services responded. Crews from GMP, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service were all in attendance at the scene.

A spokesperson for NWAS said: “We were called to an RTC on London Road at 12.36. One patient has been taken to hospital."

Pictures from the scene saw emergency vehicles parked outside the Civic Hall building. One eyewitness told the M.E.N they thought there were around four fire engines, two ambulances and ‘at least’ seven police vehicles in attendance.

As a result of the incident, bus services in the area were diverted. At 1.16pm, bus operator Stagecoach tweeted: “Route 192. Due to a Police incident on London Road in #HazelGrove, all Hazel Grove services are currently terminating and starting from Sainsburys, Stops between Sainsburys and Hazel Grove will not be served. Sorry if this is affecting your journey with us today.”

Traffic monitoring platform Inrix reported the scene reopened shortly after 2.15pm.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire said: “Just before 1pm this afternoon (Monday 23rd January), two fire engines from Offerton and Stockport Central fire station along with the Technical Response Unit from Leigh were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving two vehicles on London Road, Hazel Grove.

"The crews arrived quickly at scene. Firefighters used stabilisation and cutting equipment to rescue a woman from one of the vehicles before she was taken to hospital by colleagues from North West Ambulance Service.

“Firefighters were in attendance for around forty minutes.”
