One person has been taken to hospital after a crash just off the Coast Road in Newcastle on Friday evening.
It is understood that a vehicle collided with a tree or fence on the slip road near to the junction between the Coast Road and Benfield Road.
One witness reported seeing four North East Ambulance Service vehicles and several ambulance crews on the scene.
Several police cars were also at the scene.
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 9.14pm to reports that a car had collided with a fence or tree near the junction of Benfield Road and A1058 Coast Road.
"We dispatched a paramedic crew, one Hazardous Area Response Team crew, a doctor and a clinical team leader. They treated one patient before taking them to hospital in Newcastle."
