Person struck by train on major Edinburgh line as emergency services rush to scene

Trains between Edinburgh and Dunbar have been cancelled after a person was sadly hit on the tracks.

As emergency services attend the scene, LNER issued an update online on Saturday April 22 at around 2.50pm to say that all train lines are blocked between the capital city and Dunbar.

ScotRail have also alerted customers and warned them that lines are closed between Edinburgh and Newcraighall. Train services between Edinburgh and North Berwick will also be suspended. Replacement buses have been requested.

According to ScotRail's website, Edinburgh services to Tweedbank have been disrupted up until 5.19pm.

ScotRail wrote online: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Edinburgh and Newcraighall all lines are closed. Train services between Edinburgh and North Berwick will be suspended.

"Buses have been requested but we're still awaiting confirmation. We have 1 Ratho bus running from Edinburgh to North Berwick arriving at 1530.

On Twitter LNER said: "LNERUpdate it is with great sadness that we report that a person has been hit by a train.All lines between #Dunbar and #Edinburgh are blocked."

They added: "LNER works closely with The Samaritans and The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM). If you or someone close to you has been affected by this incident or any other, there is always someone to talk to. You can contact the Samaritans on 116123 free at any time, on any phone."

British Transport Police have been contacted for comment.
