A person has been struck by a train between Elgin and Forres this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the line around 3pm on Friday after a person was by a train.
The route is currently closed and replacement buses are being organised by ScotRail as services have been suspended while emergency services deal with the incident.
Posting about the incident on Twitter, ScotRail said: "I'm afraid a person has been hit by a train between Elgin and Forres.
"The emergency services are on their way and the line is closed. We are arranging replacement buses at the moment."
In an update, they added: "There's three replacement buses on the way to Inverness station. We're struggling to get any for Aberdeen as the hire buses in the area are doing school runs. We'll keep trying."
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to the line near Keith railway station at 2.57pm today (10 March) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
"Paramedics also attended, and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the procurator fiscal."
