Person dead after being hit by train in East Lothian as emergency services race to scene

A person has died after being struck by a train in East Lothian last night.

Emergency services raced to the scene after reports of a casualty on the tracks at Dunbar station at 9.54pm. Paramedics also attended, however sadly they were pronounced dead at the scene.

This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the procurator fiscal.

LNER took to social media to inform passengers that there would be delays following the tragedy, reports Edinburgh Live.

Shortly after the incident, LNER tweeted: "It is with great sadness to report that a person has been hit by a train between #BerwickUponTweed and #Edinburgh Services are likely to be delayed or altered at this time in the area."

The rail provider tweeted another update shortly before 1am saying that the disruption has been cleared and services had returned to normal.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "‘British Transport Police were called to the line near Dunbar railway station at 9.54pm yesterday (25 October) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the procurator fiscal.’have been approached for comment."
