Person hit by a train on Merseyrail network

A person has been hit by a train on the Merseyrail network.

The condition of the person is not yet known. Services are currently suspended between Sandhills and Kirkby and between Sandhills and Ormskirk.

A limited rail replacement bus service will run between these stations. Disruption is expected on the network until 6pm today (November 19).

Services between Hunts Cross and Southport are also subject to delay and possible cancellation. Trains are not currently running on this line, while passengers were stuck on stationary trains between Sandhills and Moorfields.

A spokesperson for Merseyrail said: “Following a welfare incident at Kirkdale station this afternoon, services have been disrupted on the Northern Line. There is a limited number of rail replacement buses in operation between Sandhills and Kirkby.

"Trains are running between Aintree and Ormskirk. A rail replacement bus service is running between Sandhills and Aintree. Southport and Hunts Cross services are meeting with delay and cancellation.

"Disruption is expected to last until 18:00 on Saturday evening. Passengers should make alternative travel arrangements if possible. Passengers can visit https://www.merseyrail.org/ to get the latest information about travel times.”

British Transport Police have been contacted for comment.
