Cheltenham Borough Council has approved the creation of 266 new homes, which hope to "create local jobs and apprenticeships."
The development at Swindon Farm, Cheltenham will be delivered by British housebuilding company Persimmon Homes. It will form the first phase of the North West Cheltenham Strategic Allocation, defined by the Joint Core Strategy of Tewkesbury, Cheltenham and Gloucester councils, which sets out a strategic planning framework for the three areas
The consortium of Bloor Homes and York-headquartered Persimmon Homes are working collaboratively to bring forward the wider allocation later this year.
The new development at Swindon farm will contribute to Cheltenham Borough Council’s housing land supply, with 35% of the new homes being transferred to an affordable housing provider for rent and shared ownership.
Approximately £7m will be paid to support infrastructure delivery and ensure economic development, which will include highways, public transport, education, libraries and public open space contributions.
A spokesperson for Persimmon Homes said: "We're delighted to have received approval for our development at Swindon Farm and I want to thank Cheltenham Borough Council for their support. Not only will the development delivery 209 quality new homes, it will also create local jobs and apprenticeships as part of the construction, and generate a significant investment in the local economy."
With sustainability at the forefront of the project the new homes are set to feature air source heat pumps and solar panels.
The spokesperson continued: "Crucially, our development at Swindon Farm will be a sustainable, no gas community - with air source heat pumps and solar panels being provided on all homes to ensure our community is delivered with consideration for the environment as the utmost priority."
Last month Persimmon launched a new 178 home development at St Modwen’s £1bn Glan Llyn regeneration scheme in Newport.
The properties, which forms part of Persimmon’s Springfield Meadows scheme, will include 18 social homes in partnership with housing association Pobl. In a phased release of properties to the market, the first homes will be completed this summer. Depending on market conditions the development is scheduled for completion in 2027.
And in November 2022 the housing developer acquired land in Cornwall with plans to build more than 400 new homes.
The site at Clodgey Lane in Helston was bought for an undisclosed sum and has outline planning permission for 404 properties of which 101 could be made available to a local housing association.
Plans include a mix of one-to-four bedroom homes, with detached, semi-detached and terraced properties.
Persimmon said the project could deliver “vast” community benefits, including contributions to open space, as well as improvements to local education and transport.
