Perseid meteor shower, one of the most reliable and widely watched astronomical events of the year, peaks on the night of 12 August into the early morning hours of 13 August 2026, with conditions this year described by astronomers as close to ideal.
The shower has been active since mid-July and runs through 23 August, but the highest meteor counts will come in the window between midnight and dawn on 12 and 13 August. At peak, the shower can produce anywhere between 50 and 100 meteors per hour under the right conditions, according to NASA.
