Perry County Commonwealth’s Attorney arrested on federal wire fraud charges

Scott Blair, the Commonwealth’s Attorney of Perry County, is facing federal honest services wire fraud charges after an arrest last week.

Honest services fraud involves “a scheme or artifice to deprive another of the intangible right of honest services,” according to U.S. code.

The criminal complaint filed in the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s Eastern District of Kentucky alleges Blair used his position to assist other Perry County citizens facing criminal charges, from April 2020 to March 2024.

It also alleges multiple times when Blair would request sexual favors or methamphetamine in exchange for that help.

Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman has since called for Blair’s immediate resignation.

“...Prosecutors cannot be effective if they violate the public trust,” Coleman said in a release. “Given the serious accusations of abusing his office to assist criminals in exchange for drugs and sexual favors, the public good demands that Scott Blair immediately resign.”

An investigation from the FBI, Kentucky Attorney General’s Office and Kentucky State Police took place before the complaint was filed. His initial court appearance took place Monday afternoon.
