Belfast City Council has granted planning permission for 778 new apartments in the Titanic Quarter.
Spread across three blocks, the new development will include a range of build-to-rent, social and affordable one, two, three and studio apartments and will be situated on a brown field site just yards from the Titanic centre.
Known as the Loft Lines, it has will be developed by London-based Watkins Jones and local company Lacuna Developments, with construction due to start late summer and completion expected by August 2025. Titanic Quarter and Belfast Harbour have also been involved in bringing the proposals to life.
As part of the planning permission, the development will also include a range of amenity spaces for residents and marks the latest plan to encourage more city centre living in Belfast.
It will also help draw investment to the city in the years ahead, Alex Pease, Chief Investment Officer of Watkin Jones, said.
“The Loft Lines shows the potential of institutional investment to bring forward places with long-term value for the people who live in and around them, and we anticipate seeing Belfast as a prime investment destination grow as this scheme progresses.”
Anthony Best, Director of Lacuna Developments, said the permission gives a significant boost to Belfast’s economic future.
“The partnership approach with the council on Loft Lines is a huge part of this successful outcome and we look forward to continuing to work with our key stakeholders Belfast Harbour and Titanic Quarter Limited to see these exciting plans move forward later this year,” he said. “A local contractor is expected to be appointed which will help create a significant number of construction jobs for the local economy over a three-year period.”
