PepsiCo Takes Doritos Someplace Entirely New

PepsiCo (PEP) is at it again with its Doritos brand. Chip flavors keep evolving as there is no end to what consumers want to put on a chip...dips, meat, cheeses, veggies, spices.

Doritos isn’t just working on new flavors all the time either. It's also working with Taco Bell (YUM) taco to bring together the Doritos nacho cheese flavor and the fixings in the Nacho Cheese Doritos Locos Taco. Taco Bell has even offered Cool Ranch Dorito Locos Tacos and Fiery Dorito Locos Tacos.

Doritos recently launched a limited-time offering of a new flavor that some people will love and others might hate. For those who will love it, it’s just what they need in their pantry to satisfy two unique cravings at one time with one new snack. Doritos new classic Ketchup flavored chip. It gives the taste of the flavor some love without getting the chip soggy if they were to... well um, dip the chip in ketchup. Albeit Doritos can handle a bit of ketchup on them, having the flavor built right into their favorite snack chip is even better. Doritos also launched a spicy mustard flavor alongside the ketchup flavor.

PepsiCo’s Doritos Expands with New Collaboration

PepsiCo's Doritos is partnering again with Jack Link’s, a subsidiary of Tyson Foods (TSN). PepsiCo worked with Jack Link’s in 2009 on a distribution deal, according to Food Dive. Now the deal is bigger and bolder, as PepsiCo’s Doritos flavors are being sold as a new wild flavor of the Jack Link’s brand. Jack Link’s introduced two new flavors, Jack Link’s Doritos Spicy Sweet Chili Beef Jerky and Jack Link’s Flamin’ Hot Original Beef Jerky.

Jack Link’s is known for its risky takes on advertising and bold flavors, notoriously using a sasquatch as its spokesperson. Not that sasquatch is a 'person' and or isn’t a 'person,' just that 'it' or 'they' represent the Jack Link’s brand. This new flavor meat stick places Doritos in an all-new aisle of the grocery store. Extending outside of the chip and dip aisle into a different grab and go snack section. This collaboration extends the brand names reach and puts both names at forefront of consumers' minds when grocery shopping or going into a convenient store.

Frito-Lay’s Dorito's take on the partnership is simple.

“We know our snack fans are loyal to the iconic flavors we’ve created across our Frito-Lay brands, so this is the perfect opportunity to bring bold flavors in a new form,” Leslie Vesper, Frito-Lay vice president of marketing, said in a statement.

“The question in our mind is how far do these brands stretch,” Parth Raval, PepsiCo Foods North America chief growth officer said in a January interview. “We have strong reason to believe that our brands play in multiple domains, and we want to ensure that every time there’s a snacking occasion that the shopper is looking to Frito-Lay.”

Doritos World Dominance

Frito-Lay's snack chip Doritos are expanding not only in flavor and creating new delicious products with Tyson's Jack Link's, but the iconic brand recently introduced itself into the world of miniatures.

The fun fab chip was introduced last year as a mini version of itself and sold in chip tubes. Doritos Minis were created alongside a miniature version of Cheetos, and Sun Chips, making them a great way to stick the chip tube in the car cup holder and pop off the lid and shake in a mouthful on the go. The mini snacks were introduced with two flavors of each snack. Doritos Minis were in the most loved Nacho Cheese and Cool Ranch flavors. The Sun Chip Minis came in Harvest Cheddar and Garden Salsa flavors. The Cheetos Minis came in Flamin' Hot and Cheddar flavors.

Doritos are making its way through different avenues to create its snack chip world dominance, in flavors, sizes, in addition to a wildly successful reach into the fast-food market with Taco Bell' Doritos Locos Tacos.
