Pepe transfer, Leno sold and £50m Gabriel bid rejected - Arsenal's ideal summer deals revealed

Arsenal have been one of the most active clubs in the summer transfer window so far and there's still plenty of time for Mikel Arteta and Edu to get even more business done before deadline day.

In terms of incomings, the Gunners completed four deals before the second week of July with Marquinhos joining from Sao Paulo, Fabio Vieira arriving from Porto, Matt Turner's worst kept secret in football finally being confirmed and Gabriel Jesus sealing a £45m transfer from Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Arsenal's high-profile departures so far include Matteo Guendouzi and Konstantinos Mavropanos - who have joined Marseille and Stuttgart respectively on permanent deals after loan spells last season - and Alexandre Lacazette following the expiration of his contract.

What comes next for the north London outfit is already clear with an agreement in place with Man City to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko for £30m, whilst Mikel Arteta has hinted at more deals amid links to Lyon's Lucas Paqueta, Leicester City ace Youri Tielemans and a winger.

"We're still hoping to improve the team and make a few more changes," the Spaniard told reporters after watching his side beat Everton 2-0 in a pre-season friendly in the USA over the weekend. "But again, the market will dictate our capacity to do this."

Another factor that will almost certainly dictate Arteta's ability to bolster his Arsenal squad even further is player sales as departures are required to not only raise funds for more signings but also to bring down the wage bill and avoid any Premier League squad registration issues for next season.

So with that in mind, we at football.london gave Gunners supporters the chance to step into Arteta and Edu's shoes by deciding who should be kept or sold before the summer transfer window closes. To make it a little more exciting, none of the four new signings were included alongside Bukayo Saka, Ben White, Gabriel Martinelli, Eddie Nketiah, Emile Smith Rowe and Martin Odegaard.

And the results aren't too surprising in terms of who shouldn't be sold as Takehiro Tomiyasu, Thomas Partey and Gabriel Magalhaes are at the top of the list to keep. Kieran Tierney and Aaron Ramsdale complete the top five players the club shouldn't entertain any offers for.

In Gabriel's case, this is rather interesting as he has been linked with a move to Juventus amid talk of Arsenal not considering any offers below the £50m mark for the central defender. However, it would appear that supporters are in favour of the Brazilian staying put and thus urging any bids to be rejected.

Perhaps another surprising name in the list of players to keep is Nuno Tavares. The Portugal U21 international had a mixed debut season following his £6.8m transfer and is thought to be available for an exit this summer as his game time is likely to be reduced upon the arrival of Zinchenko. But judging by the results, one can assume that many supporters still have faith in the left-back to overcome his inconsistency.

As seen in the graphic above, there are six players whom Arsenal fans want to see the back of once the summer transfer window slams shut at the beginning of September and Cedric Soares lead the way with 48% followed closely by Reiss Nelson with 40.1% of the vote.

Now, football.london understands that the former is set to stay with the club amid previous interest in his services from Atletico Madrid and Porto, whilst Arteta has offered an olive branch to players such as Nelson who have returned after loan spells last season.

In addition, fans are keen for Bernd Leno, Hector Bellerin and Ainsley Maitland-Niles to be sold, whilst Nicolas Pepe appearing in the 'players to sell' column is hardly much of a surprise as the feeling is that this summer is the ideal time for the club's record signing to get his transfer away.
