Pep Guardiola sets Jack Grealish new Man City challenge after Leeds performance

Pep Guardiola praised Jack Grealish for contributing two "brilliant assists" in Manchester City's 3-1 win at Leeds, but again challenged the winger to add more goals to his game.

The £100million attacker put two second-half goals on a plate for Erling Haaland at Elland Road to shrug off the boo-boys who had targeted him from the home ends throughout the game.

But Grealish also missed two excellent chances in the first half and he has just seven goals in 56 appearances for City, with adding the finishing touch an issue Guardiola has mentioned previously.

The City boss was happy with his contribution at Leeds, but also said Grealish must improve his mindset in front of goal and his desire to finish the chances that come his way.

"He was good, in the first half he missed chances, he has to improve in that and his mentality and be aggressive there, ‘I am going to score, I am going to score’ but he shows the quality to be generous. He is so humble and the perfect assist for Erling," he said.

"He gave two brilliant assists. The second one, when we can rest the ball with Jack and Riyad, give us the right tempo to do back again and do the other side a little bit quicker."

Grealish was again on the wrong end of some rough treatment from the Leeds player and he reacted on a couple of occasions. Guardiola was asked if he needed more protection but instead focused on Stuart Attwell's decision to give teenager Rico Lewis the first caution in the game.

"It was actions like the first yellow card for the 18-year-old boy. Before it was not many things but it was a yellow card. But he is 18 years old which is why it is easy to do it. But it is England and you have to adapt to what happens," he said.
