Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola believes his side are fully innocent after the Premier League accused the title holders of over 100 rule breaches. City have been accused of nearly a decade of seriously misrepresenting their financial position and then years of failing to cooperate with an investigation.
The club expressed their surprise at the allegations and welcomed an investigation which they believe will clear them of the charges. Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe was asked about City's situation but offered a classy response to reporters.
Guardiola has spoken for the first time since the allegations came to the fore and is fully backing the club to prove their innocence. City were previously charged by UEFA back in 2019 and were temporarily expelled from the Champions League by UEFA for breaching their Financial Fair Play, however, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled a year later that the club did not disguise equity funding as sponsorship contributions - but that City did fail to co-operate with UEFA authorities.
