Pep Guardiola has responded to claims Arsenal “blew” the Premier League title race.
Manchester City’s fifth League title in six years was officially confirmed on Saturday after Mikel Arteta’s Gunners side lost to Nottingham Forest.
Given the size of Arsenal’s lead after the World Cup and the fact they amassed a stunning 50 points during the start of the season, Arteta’s team have been criticised.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher said Arsenal “blew it” after dropping points to the likes of West Ham, Southampton and Forest during the final stages of the campaign.
They took only nine points from a possible 24 and twice lost to City as hopes of winning a first League title since 2004 faded.
Guardiola, however, believes there is a tendency to underestimate teams who do not quite get over the line and wants the Gunners to be given the respect they deserve for such a promising season.
"It’s the tendency to underestimate. They are winners," he said.
