Pep Guardiola pranks Jack Grealish and five other things spotted on first day of Man City's pre-season tour

On Sunday Manchester City's players took to the training pitch for the first time on their pre-season tour of the United States.

The 26-man Blues squad is currently based at Houston Dynamo's training complex in Houston, ahead of a friendly against Mexican outfit Club America on Thursday. City will then fly up to Wisconsin for a meeting with Bayern Munich at Green Bay's Lambeau Field on Saturday.

City were put through their paces on day one, as temperatures in the southern US city hit the upper 30s. The players still looked to be enjoying themselves though, with Pep Guardiola even pulling off a little prank of his own. Here's what we spotted on the first day.

Haaland on target

In Erling Haaland, Guardiola now has the striker he has been craving, and if Sunday's session was anything to go by then the 21-year-old is going to have no problem finding the back of the net for City.

The £51m man finished off a handful of crosses during one of the drills, and was even treated to a chorus of "Haaland, Haaland!" by a few of the staff and players that saw him plant a bullet header past Ederson.

During his unveiling last week Haaland said that he scores goals when he's having fun - so far so good then.

Julian Alvarez impresses

His arrival may have been somewhat overshadowed by the signing of Haaland, but Argentine striker Julian Alvarez looked every bit as clinical in-front of goal as his new teammate.

The 22-year-old showed great aerial accuracy by guiding a header past Ederson - perhaps surprising given his small stature - as well as drinking a clever effort over the goalkeeper after his initial shot had been spilled.

With Haaland and Alvarez in attack this season, opposition defences are going to have to be more switched-on than ever before.

Pep pranks Jack

Jack Grealish established himself as the dressing room clown during his first season at City, but on Sunday Guardiola decided to give him a taste of his own medicine.

As the players cooled down and aided their muscle recovery after training by sitting in ice baths, the manager snuck up on Grealish and poured a bottle of cold water over his head. The clip of Grealish blurting out in shock is bound to do the rounds on social media.

Oleksandr Zinchenko

Oleksandr Zinchenko is reportedly on the verge of a move to Arsenal, but until that happens he is still very much part of the City squad and a well-liked member of the dressing room.

Before the main session began he was playing foot-tennis with Riyad Mahrez, and was later seen laughing and joking around. It's clear that it will take a lot more than rumours and reports about a player's future to create rifts in the tight-knit City squad.

Carson's still got it

Many Blues are keen to see how new goalkeeper Stefan Ortega is going to challenge and push Ederson this season, but it was Scott Carson who was pulling out all the stops on Sunday.

The 36-year-old third-choice keeper pulled off a fine acrobatic stop to keep out a Mahrez volley, and also showed his athleticism in producing a double save to deny Haaland from close range.

Should Carson get the chance to make his third City appearance, he will no doubt be ready.
